Lighting Retrofit at Burlington Fortinos’ Guelph Line Location Shines the Light on Savings

Burlington Hydro’s saveONenergy ‘For Business Retrofit Program’ Saves Kilowatts, while Cutting Energy Costs

BURLINGTON, ON – October 30, 2015 – Fortinos has recently completed lighting retrofits at its store located at 2025 Guelph Line. Under the saveONenergyOM ‘For Business Retrofit Program’ delivered by Burlington Hydro, inefficient metal halide and halogen lights have been replaced with highly efficient LED (Light Emitting Diodes) lights.

“Thanks to the government’s saveONenergy program, we’ve been able to make conservation a top priority,” said Joe Mangiapane, Fortinos’ Franchise Owner.   “As a result of lighting retrofits like these, we continue to see a reduction in our electrical use, a really positive step for the environment, and for our store’s bottom line.”

The retrofit in one store alone is expected to reduce electrical consumption by about 700,000 kWh over a one year period. Additionally, the decreased kilowatt consumption will result in a carbon dioxide (CO2) reduction of over 470 tonnes. That’s equivalent to eliminating the annual greenhouse gas emissions produced by 99 automobiles. Those add up to some impressive numbers for the environment.

"The Guelph Line Fortinos is an outstanding example of how local businesses can take advantage of concrete financial incentives by undertaking retrofit projects designed specifically for them,” says Gerry Smallegange, President and CEO, Burlington Hydro Inc. “Burlington Hydro delivers saveONenergyOM programs for every size and description of business, and has the expertise that will help guide local companies on the path to real energy and cost savings.”

It is worthy to note that the Fortinos’ Guelph Line location also completed a HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) retrofit in 2013.  Highly efficient air conditioning units now save approximately 3,300 kWh annually. The store has also installed solar panels on its rooftop under the province’s Feed-In Tariff (FIT) Program which generates 250 kW back onto the grid.
