Burlington Hydro Receives Communications Excellence Award for ‘Shine’ Value Campaign

Electricity Distributors Association (EDA) recognizes Burlington Hydro from among its provincial utility peers

March 1, 2016, BURLINGTON, ON –Burlington Hydro Inc. (BHI) has received an award for Communications Excellence from the Association that represents Ontario’s electricity distributors. The award recognizes Burlington Hydro’s ‘Shine’ and ‘Shine Inside’ value campaigns and was presented last night in Toronto at the Electricity Distributors Association’s industry awards dinner.

“We’re very proud to be recognized for our communications efforts for a campaign that has both public and internal aspects to it,” says Gerry Smallegange, President and Chief Executive Officer, Burlington Hydro Inc. “The locally focused value campaign reinforces how electricity powers almost every aspect of our lives - keeping our businesses running, supporting our emergency services, our schools and our institutions, among others.”

Visual features of the public campaign focus on our customers ‘shining’ in a series of recognizable community locales – providing a ‘reliable and safe source of electricity, delivering conservation programming, and participating in community energy planning are some of the ways we are helping to keep Burlington the best place to live, work and play.’

Burlington Hydro has also taken its value message and re-focused it on a company-wide campaign to shine a light on the good work of its employees – the core strength of the company’s success.

“Attracting, developing and retaining talent is an investment in our future and it’s instrumental in creating a sustainable and stable company,” says Jennifer Smith, Vice President, Corporate Relations. “Shine Inside recognizes our employees’ contributions and instills a culture of excellence across the organization, challenging them to innovate and excel, and to do so in ways that add value to the services we deliver to our customers.”

The two multi-year campaigns come full circle as both external and internal value propositions are seen to integrate seamlessly into Burlington Hydro’s communications approach.
