Burlington Hydro Receives Prestigious Safest Employer Award

Canadian Occupational Safety recognizes achievements of a healthy and safe work place

October 27, 2016

Burlington Hydro Inc. (BHI) is pleased to announce that it has been recognized by Canadian Occupational Safety for achieving industry excellence in employee health and safety as a Silver Winner of Canada’s Safest Employer, in the Utilities and Electrical category.

“For an industry whose workers are exposed on a daily basis to dangerous power lines and equipment, safety is always a top-of-mind priority,” said Jennifer Smith, Vice President, Corporate Relations, who accepted the award on behalf of Burlington Hydro at an award ceremony this week. “We credit our safety record to the actions of our employees who are empowered to take a preventive approach to safety for both themselves and their colleagues.”

Fostering a safe workplace for employees is a primary focus. The company’s safety-first operational culture is committed to the continuous improvement of safety performance, through training and professional certification. From the restoration crews that brave the elements, to the operations and control room team that oversee the company’s response efforts - and everyone in between - safety permeates the entire organization.

“Burlington Hydro is honoured to have its safety efforts recognized by Canadian Occupational Safety with this prestigious award,” said Gerry Smallegange, President and Chief Executive Officer of Burlington Hydro. “Safety underlies every aspect of the Burlington Hydro operation.  We take great pride in our safety record and our commitment to keeping our workplace and community safe.”
