Telephone and Texting Scams
Customers reminded to remain vigilant about suspicious calls or texts.
A recent texting scam has been reported to be active in our region. The text is falsely identified as being from Hydro One. Hydro One does not operate in Burlington, however it could cause confusion with our customers. DO NOT respond to the text that alludes to a remittance. Delete the text immediately.
A Telephone Scam was first reported in late 2022. Burlington Hydro had received calls from concerned customers who were targeted in a Hydro cut-off scam. In this scam, the caller advises that power will be cut off immediately unless payment is received by credit card over the phone. They are also threatening to cut off water unless payment is immediate.
Be aware that legitimate Burlington Hydro representatives NEVER ask customers for banking or credit card information over the phone.
Burlington Hydro wants customers to remain vigilant should they receive a suspicious call from anyone claiming to be from Burlington Hydro who is asking for this information. Simply hang up.
Please call Burlington Hydro Customer Service at (905) 332-1851 to report the incident. Callers should also report the incident immediately to the OPP's Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501.
Please be advised that 1-866-932-6616 on your call display is a legitimate Burlington Hydro number.
