- If you are in your vehicle and are in imminent danger as a result of a downed powerline CALL 9-1-1 immediately. Always assume any downed lines are energized and potentially lethal. If you can safely drive out from under the line or away from the source of electricity, do so. If you can't drive the vehicle, stay where you are until help arrives and don’t reach out the window to remove wires! If it becomes critical to escape the vehicle, jump out and away from the vehicle, making sure that you land with your feet together. You must not stumble, so don't try to jump far. Then, move away from the vehicle, using the shuffle technique, until you are at least 10-metres from the vehicle. Where you witness a powerline is on a vehicle or on the ground, do not rush to assist. Assume any downed powerline and anything it touches is live and potentially deadly. You must keep at least 10 metres (33 feet) away.
- Please bear in mind if there is a major outage, which can affect thousands of customers, the possibility of securing an open phone line could be limited. Please be aware of this possibility, and be assured that we are making every effort to restore service.
